Humm , I am sure the game tonight at SAC is going to be a true Longhorn Vs The Bulldogs baseball game. Where most of the night we will see great baseball being played
and one error with a few mental errors (those stats are not kept) will determine the game. Thats where I am about to stir the pot .
When I mentioned in yesterday article that the Bulldogs are ready to face the Valley teams by the way they were playing defense ruffled the feathers, The media locally all of
sudden saw the game and how it was being played. Thats why I dislike RECAPS without baseball review follow up.
The Bulldogs got their defensive cobwebs removed in their last game. I get to see their practices each day and this year it's different. For the last two years at Bulldog heaven.
There has been some things being worked to the point the Bulldogs were when they went to State. Not surprising like then It has Mario Garcia as their head coach. He has
been there and done that.
The over used (by me as well) of the term Dream Team has arrived. Ya, the Bulldogs are ready to face the Longhorns with perhaps one of the best teams Alexander has put
together. But they still have to see Orange in the stadium and this time they face Homero Ortiz one year older one year smarter as a pitcher and they will have to content with
his mighty bat that no one in Region IV can come close too. Oh, that aspect it makes the Orange men of United dangerous because they have one thing no one figured on.
Those Longhorns are so young but someone forgot to tell them that. They play like a seasoned senior team.
As a baseball purest I would have gone with Fernando Garza against United, Not that Christan Paz can't whip the Longhorns. But Garza has the Longhorn numbers. He played
with most of the United team in one place or another. There is nothing like not liking someone and then having to pitch against them. Thats baseball at it's purest. It was
interesting that little thought went into not using Garza tonight.. NADA que Ver Right. The local newspaper went out of its way to make the point the other way . Like I said NADA
QUE VER Nada Saber about baseball It was a bit to late to re-ask after it happen.
Coach Gomez what a baseball fox he is. There are elements in his 2010 baseball team that few have noticed. There are a bunch of juniors and sophomore that have come of
age. He moved players around a bit early on , He rattled their cages made some tough choices at certain batting order slots and most of all his outstanding moves in position
slots . Has made the Longhorns dangerous more when Ortiz pitches. Not because of ORtiz pitching that is a given .It's what Coach Gomez the Orange Fox does with the position
players with Ortiz on the mound. Watch where and how he moves his players tonight.
Tonight the wind will play a certain part of the game. That is why United wanted the game at Krueger. The idea it would have been closer for the parents to attend was an
honorable request, but where do you sit so many people at Krueger Field, as we will see tonight.
The game tonight was decided Tuesday. As important as it is for Alexander to win each game. The game on Tuesday was just a game in the mix. To starve the possibility they
could get beat tonight, Alexander sent their ACE to the mound to get a win Tuesday. That way they may come out with a 1-1 week . A much better position to be than 0-2 for
the week.
In the end good pitching stops good hitting. Tonight we will see that baseball proven axiom. The wind, playing at Sac, decisions made on Tuesday, grown men playing a high
school game in all those great players on both sides, two story baseball programs against each other, a Orange Fox as head coach at United, a Bulldog legend as head coach
at Alexander, and because he did not give it much though decided to perhaps save the outcome 1-1 this week. Leads us to think, sure there was much thought about the game
tonight. The local media just did not see they were running circles around the "Gateway".
Stop Homero's bat ,Eddie Rocha's bat, and the first 7 batting order for United is going to be what Alexander has to do, A lot of fly balls tonight with batters swinging late will
play into the game.
United has to stop Alexanders in play chances on the field. Keep the Bulldogs off the bases early and not allowing Rick Ortiz to stead second each time he gets on is key.
Finding a way to stop Mario Maldonado is key. Mark Arrendondo play will be something the Orange men have to stop. Who's at first for Alexander Who's at Second and who's at
short for Alexander is going to drive the orange men nuts. Getting the Bulldogs to not have a big inning is what will determine the game. A dreamy task the Longhorns have to
wake up to win. Something the Bulldogs want the Longhorns to remember is they faced the Dream team.
Base runners listening to their coaches as they take the next base will be part of the outcome. Running on Bulldog catcher Rick Ortiz by the Longhorns is a key, who wins that
one aspect has to have an edge.
Coach Gomez the Orange Fox Vs Coach Garcia The Legend . I am going to enjoy the game one play at a time. Because lost is that Fernando Garza is a position player for the
Bulldogs tonight. It is the position Garza plays tonight that will determine the out come tonight. An you do not have to think to much about tonight since it was determined
Tuesday and the week before. See you at all the games.
SPORTS NEWS
Well the game at Krueger field was as
expected between two high school
teams that have faced each other
since the days of "Hunter Gathers First
Appeared on the Rio Grande Valley" .
They just do not like each other.
The Longhorns of United faced the
Eagles of Eagle Pass for the bragging
rights of the Rio Grande. For what it's
worth!
In a must game as 'Must Game" is like
each game right? Well last night in a
very long time Eagle Pass was in the
mix of being left out of the 29 5 A
District playoff dance. They could not
get beat or their chances were gone of
course to win the district but to make
the playoffs with only five games left
after last nights game.
Eagle Pass in the end did THE PASO
DOUBLE to stay in contention for the
fourth slot in district 29 5A . They
danced their way back to Eagle Pass
content they held off the starvation of
not making the playoffs.
In a game that I saw with a few
eyebrow "what". Had to be noticed.
First of all remember last casi story I
said that good pitching stops good
hitting. I did not cover "A pitcher never
does more harm to himself than being
asked to pitched with three days rest".
It never really works out for anyone to
have a pitcher do that. Almost never.
They will look at Laredo United
Longhorn and the work Homero
Ortiz did last night and say wow he
had 14 K's (strikeouts) three walks
to the Eagles. An he lost the game.
WOW! Yes Wow!
