Hall of Fame Selections Update:

We have several hundred request to have certain athletes be
included in the Hall of Fame each month . The request come from
across the nation on the Laredo athletes they feel should be
included.

At the moment the Hall of Fame is gong through some physical
changes and should be up in time for the next batch of inductions.

From fans suggestions each year starting in January we monitor the
names suggested and pass them around the table to obtain the
history of the athlete . THe staff around Lrd Sports Wire provide
their own selections and together with the fans suggestions (aka
vote) plus the staff selections we narrow the names to the top 10
that are suggested with the most (votes) .We encourage for fans to
submit names it makes it more interesting and the hall is just theirs
as it is to us and obviously to the athletes and their love ones.

The process is adjusted in September to get the top vote getters
up to August 30 of each year. We then wait for the fall sports to
conclude and there are only two volleyball, cross country  and
football. The rest are continuations into the spring like basketball
and are sent to the next years polling done in August.

Once we have cross country concluded with the last university and
high school programs concluded we make our selections in
November and early December.. The announcements are then
issued and the athletes names are posted.

Early returns for August we have 5 athletes to be considered.
Lately we have a lot of request for one particular baseball player
who is a senior in high school.  All is good and all will be
considered.\\ The staff.

WEEK ONE RESULTS

SEPTEMBER 1, 2010

Rd Sports Wire Starts it's 5th season covering Laredo
Athletes in University and College sports programs. This
week we start with football.

Two Laredo athletes have made the Incarnate Word football
team they are Robert Garcia transfer from Southwest
Oklahoma State and Carlos Laurel . Both are former Laredo
Alexander Bulldog football players.

Laurel was red shirt in 2009 and is now available in 2010.  
Incarnate Word played their first game this weekend and
pick up their season in September.

Michael Talamantez is in his final year at The University of
Texas A&M Kingsville. He was the staring defensive end in
2009. The Javalinas start their football season in September.

At Texas State ALvaro Garcia starts his junior year as a
receiver / quarter back.  Alvaro has played in one playoff
game at Texas State and joins Michael Talamantez  in being
the only players from Laredo to play in a NCAA Div II
playoff game.
